ESN-Finland National Board Role Descriptions

• President: The president is the person who represents ESN-Finland within Finland. His/her responsibilities include but not limited to the following:
  
  • “Leading” the board – all the management “issues”
  • Represent ESN in Finland towards Higher Educational Institutes, companies, the media, etc.
  • Right to sign documents

• Vice-President:
  
  • Public Relations – contacting media, creating PR materials (together with the IT responsible)
  • Marketing – preparing marketing material to possible new ESN members, to newly contacted corporate partners, the media etc.
  • Internal Communication – the vice-president is taking on the responsibility of strengthening the network within Finland and constantly keeping in touch with the sections
  • First in line to replace the president if the president for any reason is not capable of fulfilling his/her duties anymore

• Treasurer:
  
  • Responsible for all the financial issues that can come up within ESN-Finland e.g.:
    
    • selling pr materials
    • possible support from partners
    • taking care of payments (e.g. in the future paying for the participation of the president on international events)
    • Making sure that all the financial information are “kept in shape”, bills and receipts are filed, balance sheet is in order

• IT:
  
  • The person responsible for IT has to take care of the following issues:
    
    • Maintenance of the ESN-Finland website (Including the mail system, the Info Centre and the Finnish ESN-Wiki)
    • Provide help to the Finnish sections in need about the website and other IT related issues
    • Create PR materials together with the Vice-President (posters, flyers, templates, etc. in digital format)

• National Representative:
  • Represents ESN Finland in international ESN meetings and events
  • Communication between the national and international level of ESN
  • Informing the Finnish sections about ESN international projects
  • Delivering news from ESN Finland and its sections to the international level
  • Representing the opinion of ESN Finland in ESN international contexts

Additionally to the above mentioned roles and tasks, the board members have to select a secretary (it can be a rotating position), who will write the minutes of the meeting, arrange the meetings, etc. One of the above positions also includes being the vice-National Representative, which one is up to the elected Board to discuss. 

The Board, as a whole:

• Coordinates and leads ESN activity in Finland
• Promotes ESN in Finland with finding new sections etc.
• Is responsible for a National Platform being organised regularly

Being a Board Member of ESN Finland is, like in general in ESN, voluntary work and a position of trust. The Board meets mainly online, but arranges also physical Board meetings. The new National Board is always elected in the spring National Platform and officially starting their duties after the AGM. The time between the election and the AGM can serve as a transition period for the old and new Board. The mandate is one year.
